- Back to School
I hope that you are enjoying your summer. Maybe you have been traveling, spending time on the beach, fishing, swimming, sightseeing, or getting some much needed rest. With the summer flying by it’s time to think about going back to school. The kids are going back to school. Maybe it’s time for you to go back too. Our summer Biofeedback and Neurofeedback seminars were another success. We had people attend from all over the USA, plus Aruba, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Turkey.
Our next Biofeedback seminar will be Oct. 21-26 in Tarrytown, New York.
Our next EEG/Neurofeedback seminar will be Oct. 28 – Nov. 1, also in Tarrytown, New York.
* We now offer rebates on Procomp systems ordered by those who attend our seminars. Contact me for details.
************************************** - Review of the book, “How to Reverse and Prevent Heart Disease and Cancer – Practical Tools based on Breakthrough Research”, by Naras Bhat, MD, FACP ISBN:0-9624780-0-9.
I believe that this book may prove to save my life or extend it and improve the quality of it. I had seen listings for presentations that Dr. Bhat was scheduled to do at several biofeedback conferences. They looked interesting to me but I never attended one. There always seemed to be a schedule conflict. There was always another presentation going on at the same time. But every time I saw one of his presentations listed, I paused and wanted to attend but didn’t.
Here are some of the statistics that Dr. Bhat points out in his book:
Cardiovascular diseases kill about one million Americans every year – about 50% of all deaths. Cancer causes about 25% of all deaths. One American dies of a cardiovascular disease every 34 seconds. One in four Americans has some sort of heart disease. There are 1.2 million cases of heart attacks in America annually. 500,000 of those people die. About 1/2 million people have strokes. 60 million have hypertension.
When I was younger my blood pressure had always been good – relatively low – about 110/65 – 120/70. My weight was also good – 160-178. I was also able to lose 5 lbs in one week without any problem. All I had to do is cut back a little bit on my food intake and maybe do a little exercise. Life was good. I didn’t really have any major stress going on in my life. Everything was good at work. Everything was going well in my family and spiritual life. Things have changed over the last several years. My stress load, weight and blood pressure have all increased. I was starting to get concerned.
When I saw this book title, I thought to myself – I need this! I have been meaning to get to one of his presentations and I haven’t. Maybe I didn’t actually believe I needed it before. This time I knew that I really did need it. So I bought it. I started to read it. It was difficult to put down. It really brought home in some easy to understand ways things about the effects of stress and how biofeedback and other forms of stress management can be helpful. It also taught me things that I think I should have known long ago about nutrition and the positive and negative effects nutrition can have.
In the book, Dr. Bhat explains the effects of stress, nutrition, stress management, breathing, etc. down to the DNA, molecular and atomic level. It talks about the ‘warfare’ of free radicals and antioxidants – supplements. This helped me to see the connections between stress, nutrition, supplements, stress management, etc., and heart disease and cancer in a more clear way. The book makes it understandable to most anybody. I was upset that I didn’t have the insight earlier in my life. I guess the time was just right when it came along.
Another topic covered is the negative effects of anger on health. It is surprising to know the amount of damage that is done to our bodies every time we become angry. Dr. Bhat gives various techniques to deal with this problem too. The book includes many illustrations, charts, and graphs that help to clarify some of the concepts that are put forth. I found some parts of the book to be repetitive but the repetitions were meaningful and effective. If this book was so eye opening for me, one who has been in the biofeedback field for over 20 years, I thought how much more eye opening and life saving could it be for those who know little or nothing about health, stress management, and nutrition. I suggest that you get a copy for yourself and get a copy to give to someone you love and care about. It might save their life especially if they are at risk.
You can get the book from us at 877-669-6463, order online at http://www.biofeedbackinternational.com or from other book retailers. I was so impressed by this book that I plan to contact the author about doing seminars for our organization. I would like to do seminars for the general public as well as health care professionals. I believe that this book has the potential to save many lives and improve the health and quality of life for many people.
Please send me an email with your comments if you have also read the book or if you would be interested in attending a seminar by the author. I will put you on a list to be notified when a seminar is planned.
