Biofeedback and the Consciousness Processes
Prof. Jorge J. Palacios V. PhD.
4 Webinar series
In the first webinar on April 6th the neural mechanisms of sensory integration and con-sciousness will be explored. It will be analyzed as the process that initiates with the sen-sory integration itself. The neural mechanisms elicited after sensory stimulation that are activated for the functional integration of the cerebral cortex are going to be discussed in terms of specific sets of neural activity. In neurofunctional terms the role of the parieto-occipito-temporal cortex and its relation to the primary sensory areas is analyzed as the functional and integration center of Consciousness. Finally the role of the relation interoception-consciousness as the functional learning bases of Biofeedback is established.
The second webinar on April 7th explores in more detail the activation of the prima-ry sensory areas of the cerebral cortex and its role during the integration of conscious-ness. We analyze the consciousness as the initial EEG activity generated by the “prima-ry” sensory integration. Learning and memory as neural functions and its relation to the pattern recognition and experience engrams after sensory integration is discussed, in terms of the elements of consciousness that play a fundamental role in Biofeedback as the functional gate to interoception.
The third webinar on April 20th human consciousness is analyzed as a process that is based in dynamic and complex patterns that coordinate cerebral signals. In this webi-nar basic and applied research examples conducted for the study of human conscious-ness are analyzed to explain how brain activity differs according to different states of consciousness. Neural connectivity is analyzed and compared in an experimental setup with healthy neurological individuals vs.individuals suffering from brain lesions and the way how the brain activity of each one responds to simple and complex visual stimuli. In this webinar the role of the neural processes of consciousness in the interoception and learning experiences is stablished as the neurophysiological bases of the Biofeedback process.
The fourth and last webinar in this series on April 21st is dedicated to the analysis of how Biofeedback as learning experience and a gate to interoception is in consequence the self-consciousness experience and the self-regulation basic process, consequence of experience. The role of Biofeedback as a tool for interacting with human consciousness to enhance the internal sensory experience to obtain health or well being states is discussed and established. The implications of all these findings and conclusions in the therapeutic and training strategies for patients and clients and the repercussion in the professional training programs for Biofeedback specialists is discussed.
